Description: This test is primarily used to diagnose pheochromocytoma, a rare type of cancer, and similar tumors which may secrete epinephrine, norepinephrine, or both.
Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Patient Instructions: Overnight fasting is required. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 8 hours before testing. Patient should avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and strenuous exercise prior to collection. Patients should be relaxed in either a supine or upright position before blood is drawn. States of anxiety and stress can cause fluctuations in the catecholamine levels.
